Owner and head chef


Matt Breen is a Hobart chef and restaurateur behind some of Tasmania’s most celebrated dining venues, including Templo, Sonny, and Ogee. With more than 15 years of experience, his cooking is shaped by a childhood love of local produce, Italian hospitality, and food that turns strangers into lifelong friends.

Drawing inspiration from European bistros and regional traditions, Matt creates ingredient-led dishes that are simple, generous, and full of flavour. Through his restaurants, he has helped shape Tasmania’s contemporary dining scene while championing the people and produce that make the state unique.

Our space

Built in 1897, Ogee is housed within a heritage workers’ cottage on Murray Street in North Hobart. The row was originally constructed as modest residential housing during the area’s early expansion, retaining much of its Victorian-era character and neighbourhood history.

The corner building, where Ogee now resides, was always connected to food. Once known as the Crescent Corner Store, it was owned by an Italian family and served the local community for many years. More than a century later, it has been reimagined as Ogee. A place for food, wine, music, and gathering.

The sound


Music is a core part of the Ogee experience. The dining space is powered by Superwax Mini speakers from Hobart makers Pitt & Giblin, blending Tasmanian craftsmanship with exceptional sound. We play vinyl throughout the service, letting the music shape the rhythm of the room and inviting guests to slow down, settle in, and stay a little longer.
